Susan Ackerman is an attorney and was appointed to the Oregon Public Utility Commission in March 2010 by Gov. Kulongoski.
Prior to her service on the OPUC, she was in the private practice of law representing a variety of clients in electricity and natural gas regulatory matters, including electric and natural gas rate cases, pipeline and wholesale power rate cases, transmission matters and contracts, wholesale power sales and contracts, natural gas contracting, competitive procurement, and integrated resource planning, among others. Her clients included public preference customers of a federal power marketing agency, independent power producers, a local natural gas distributor, and the Bonneville Power Administration. She has represented clients before the OPUC, the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and the National Energy Board of Canada.
She currently serves on the EPRI Advisory Council, Executive Committee to EPRI Advisory Council, Co-chair of Residential Retrofit Working Group of SEE Action.
Hunter has spent his career focusing on the development and application of value driven analytics to improve business performance. As General Manager of Data Services, he is responsible for driving Tendril’s Data Services business unit and leading a team of analytics professionals to extend the value of Tendril’s products and services. He has held key executive and management roles in the US and UK, including CMO at HBOS Cards Services, Head of Commercial Management at Barclaycard, and held senior positions at Partners First and Providian. He also holds a PhD in Systems Engineering, has served on the Faculty at Visa Europe Business School and is a frequent conference speaker.
Kris Bowring was named director of business and channel development, smart home business unit in 2013. Bowring leads the smart home business unit business and channel development, bringing together a unique set of partnerships across multiple industry ecosystems, such as, the insurance industry, utility industry, service providers, senior care and other relevant partnerships. Prior to Lowe’s, Bowring was vice president of Navitas Partners a strategic consulting firm specializing in energy, strategy and the retailing experience working closely with both big box retailers, utilities and federal government agencies. Bowring also was platform lead and general manager of the Home and Energy Management connected home platform at Best Buy. Bowring is a nationally recognized thought leader on consumer acceptance and market evolution of connected home technologies and services. Bowring has led significant primary research studies on customer attitudes and adoption of the Connected Home and has also initiated and led research forums with major technology manufacturers, utility companies and service providers. Bowring also received the Chairman’s innovation award for his innovation and growth acceleration work in retail. Bowring was also a founding member of the EPA’s Retail Action Council. Bowring brings over 18 years leadership experience in telecommunications, home appliances, consumer electronics products and retail marketing. Bowring has a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Cardinal Stritch University. Bowring also served on the boards of the Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative, the Continental Automated Builders Association, and was an industry advisor to the Pecan Street Project smart grid initiative.
Elisabeth Brinton is a trusted senior executive, thought leader and entrepreneur with a track record of successful innovation, execution, value creation and disruption across multiple industries, including Energy, Water, Food, Agriculture, and High Tech.
Most recently, Elisabeth was the Corporate Strategy Officer for PG&E Corporation, a F200 Energy Holding Company that has been a global utility pioneer in renewables, customer solar, T&D, and energy efficiency. She launched PG&E’s groundbreaking IOT “Grid of Things” business strategy, ran M&A and strategic investments, and led California’s exploration of new utility business models. Earlier, Elisabeth was the Chief Customer Officer of SMUD, running the $2 Billion Retail P&L for that vertically integrated utility, including complex 24x7, high-stakes operations and a team of 1,000 employees.
An entrepreneur at heart, Elisabeth has been in the C-Suite as an executive officer, CEO or Founder of four successful Silicon Valley start-up companies with technologies and products that were pioneering and disruptive for their time. Ventures include, Loudcloud that pioneered the ASP business model and the now ubiquitous Cloud, where Elisabeth was on the founding leadership team and ran global marketing, helping the company scale and go public in record time for a US company. Earlier, Elisabeth was the founder and CEO of her own technical product development and marketing agency where she created a business delivering over $100 million in value, serving both major consumer brands like Pepsico and Nike, and innovative start-ups delivering deep, pioneering work in food, agriculture and high tech, including the development of several patents and commercializing new category creating products like branded, value-added produce and early organic and specialty products from ice cream to natural sodas.
Elisabeth is a chemist and passionate creative, blending scientific/technical expertise with customer centric market innovation, business strategy and policy leadership. She is a top honors graduate of Principia College with a triple major across scientific and humanities disciplines and both a Harry S. Truman and Lincoln Academy Scholar. Out of College, Elisabeth worked for the US House of Representatives as a legislative assistant for a member of Congress and the House Judiciary Committee.
Currently, Elisabeth is a voluntary faculty Co-Chair for Singularity University’s Global Energy & Climate track (2013 Executive Program Alum) and serves on the Advisory Boards of Smart Wires, Rancho Purisima Farms, and the UC Davis Energy Efficiency Center.
John Carrington, CEO, has over 25 years of proven leadership in technology, energy and industrial companies. John joined Stem from his role as CEO of MiaSole, the largest CIGS-based solar company with over $550 million in investment, where he oversaw its sale to Hanergy. Prior to MiaSole, John served as Executive Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at First Solar where he grew the company from $400 million to $2 billion in revenue, opening markets in the US, Asia and Europe. John spent 16 years at General Electric, most recently as General Manager and Chief Marketing Officer of the $7 billion GE Plastics global organization where he lead innovation and product strategy for 30,000 customers and executed its $12 billion sale to SABIC. With GE, John led innovation efforts in healthcare, electronics, business equipment, transportation, aviation, solar, wind, defense, telecommunications, security and media sectors. He is an alumnus of the University of Colorado.
David B. Chiesa is the Senior Director of Global Business Development for S&C Electric Company. In this role, David is responsible for the Profitable growth of S&C's Market Segments Globally. This position is focused on expanding the reach of S&C's products and services within the Market Segments of Renewables, Energy Storage, Data Centers, Microgrids, and Reactive Compensation. He brings 16 years of experience in the direction and management of sales teams across the United States.
Mr. Chiesa began his career in the United States Army, serving as a maintenance company commander, a general officer aide-de-camp, and the U.S. forces maintenance manager for the NATO troops conducting peacekeeping operations in Bosnia.
He holds a BS degree in Engineering from the United States Military Academy and an MBA from the University of Maryland. He is a certified Master Black Belt in the Six Sigma quality program and is an active member of IEEE, the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Raj Chudgar as Vice President of Sale and Business Development for Power Generation Services Inc. Mr. Chudgar brings extensive experience in the wholesale (operations and markets), TDSP (Transmission and Distribution Providers), demand response, and retail energy space, and has lead numerous client projects covering all aspects of system and lifecycle development, ISO development and wholesale energy business solutions. He has spent more than 20 years in the electricity market and utility business with a focus on software development, renewables generation, market strategy, and Smart Grid solutions. He has spent nearly 20 years working with end use customers, regulatory bodies (PUCT, FERC, ERCOT), and deep background in retail, wholesale, T&D, and regulatory affairs. Mr. Chudgar holds Bachelor and Masters of Engineering degrees in Chemical Engineering from the J.B. Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville (Kentucky). He has published a number of technical articles, white papers and presentations on implementation best practices in energy procurement, and has been a distinguished speaker on solutions and market trends at several technology and engineering conferences.
Kevin brings more than 25 years experience in architecting and designing world-class technology solutions, both as an entrepreneur and as a corporate executive. Kevin has extensive domain knowledge in the utility sector having assisted BC Hydro in all aspects of its smart grid program from concept through to operations. Before founding Bit Stew, Kevin worked closely with a number of Silicon Valley companies while at Ernst & Young, and was a key innovator within Navio Systems and NetReliance. Prior to his time in the Silicon Valley, Kevin worked in the high-tech networking and security field and led technology firms specializing in cryptography, public key infrastructures and high-performance and scalable networks. He also spent many years working on networking technologies at Motorola in their Wireless Research Group. As CEO of Bit Stew, Kevin established the vision and direction for the company, leads the evolution of Bit Stew’s MIx Core™ platform and MIx Director™ application and acts as chief customer advocate. Kevin remains passionate about the Industrial Internet and works closely with customers to continue Bit Stew’s tradition of innovation.
Dr. David Danielson leads the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). As Assistant Secretary, he oversees a broad energy portfolio that is intended to hasten the transition to a clean energy economy. Previously, he was the first Program Director hired by DOE's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). At ARPA-E, he developed and led R&D programs with a budget of more than $100 million that focused on high-risk, high-reward, disruptive clean energy technologies. Prior to joining ARPA-E, he was a clean energy venture capitalist at General Catalyst Partners, a Boston-based venture capital fund. He co-founded the firm's clean energy investment practice and helped build and grow startups in various clean energy technology areas including solar power, wind power, advanced biofuels, bio-gas, carbon capture and storage, and advanced lighting. He was a co-founder of the New England Clean Energy Council. He has authored more than 20 scientific articles in the field of advanced materials. While at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he was the founder and President of the MIT Energy Club and a founding Director of the MIT Energy Conference. For his work in building a strong multidisciplinary energy community at MIT, he was awarded the Karl Taylor Compton Prize, MIT's highest student award. He holds a Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Dr. Deepak Divan is President and CTO of Varentec, a company that is providing innovative solutions to achieve a smart and dynamically controllable grid. Varentec, founded in 2010, is funded by green-tech venture capital firm Khosla Ventures and Bill Gates. Deepak has over 35 years of experience in industry and academia in the areas of power electronics applied to utility and industrial systems with Varentec being his third entrepreneurial venture. Deepak is a Fellow of the IEEE, recipient of the 2006 IEEE Newell Award, and is past President of the IEEE Power Electronics Society. With over 250 papers and 50 issued and pending patents, Dr. Divan combines unique perspectives on the changing landscape on the Transmission & Distribution grid, and the need for a transition to dynamic grid edge control, including advanced power electronics solutions and unique control algorithms.
As CODA Energy’s first CEO, Paul Detering brings over 20 years of leadership experience in clean technology, networking and software industries to the company. Detering’s deep knowledge of the renewable energy space and proven expertise in driving growth at early stage technology companies is leading CODA Energy through the next critical stages of development. His past successes in raising significant capital for a number of start-ups is a complement to the strength of CODA Energy’s product and investor base, including funds managed by affiliates of Fortress Investment Group and a European Family Office. Prior to CODA Energy, Detering founded Redwood Insights to provide advisory and interim executive services to early stage and midsize companies and funds in the renewable energy and communications industries. During this time he also served as interim CEO and CFO of REC Solar, a $100MM commercial DG solar developer, where he spearheaded dramatic sales acceleration in the first half of 2014. Before launching Redwood Insights, Detering founded and led Tioga Energy, one of the early pioneers and most experienced independent power purchase agreement (PPA) providers in the United States. At Tioga, Detering applied his extensive telecommunications experience during a period of rapid transformation to the power industry. Tioga Energy secured over $400 million in corporate and project capital and was sold to sPower in 2013. Previously he led Larian Communications, which produced a next-generation voice messaging system. Detering was also Chief Executive of Blueleaf Networks, an early stage optical networking and components company; Wildfire Communications, which he successfully sold to Orange Plc; and IQ Labs. Detering began his career at Nortel Networks and has worked at Raychem, Raynet Systems, and McKinsey and Company. He received a Bachelor of Engineering in Engineering Physics from the Royal Military College of Canada and an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, where he graduated with high distinction as a Baker Scholar.
Einat Dorobantu is Director of System Resiliency and Strategy at Eversource Energy, New England's largest electric utility. With over 11 years of utility experience, she is responsible for the development and implementation of the company's resiliency program, distribution assets strategy and new technologies, distributed energy resources integration and capital investment planning and management. She currently leads the development of the company’s long term strategy, operational models and business opportunities that will continue to promote a reliable, resilient and integrated grid. Prior to this role, Einat developed and lead the company's Microgrid strategy in CT, she worked closely with the State developing the policy framework and technical standards to reliable integration of Microgrids. Since its conception in 2012, CT's Microgrid program is a unique demonstration of strong collaboration and partnership between utility and State that is successful in providing benefits to customers while advancing new technologies on the grid. Einat holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Management Engineering and Master of Business Administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Chad Eckhardt is President and CEO of GridBridge, Inc., which is revitalizing power delivery systems within a variety of critical applications through combining breakthrough technology that enables distributed resources, enhances reliability and resilience, and improves efficiency. Chad has spent over a decade leading various businesses within established Original Equipment Manufacturers in the electrical distribution and power quality markets. He offers a proven track record of commercializing technology from advanced R&D centers, transforming early stage concepts into customer-driven, state-of-the art solutions with convincing value propositions. Chad’s distinguished product launch experience is extensive. His education includes electrical engineering at Milwaukee School of Engineering and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University.
Urs is an expert in regulatory matters and matters of infrastructure finance and public-private partnerships. He has over 13 years of experience in project finance and private equity in the infrastructure and renewable energy sectors. Previously, Urs was Investment Manager at John Laing, and has served as Assistant Vice President of AIG Project Finance Advisory Services with a focus on renewable and conventional energy as well as infrastructure projects. Urs graduated from the University of Zurich Law School and received his MBA in International Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona.
Kyle Haas is an Energy Policy Manager at the Maryland Energy Administration. He works with industry, environmental and ratepaying stakeholders to develop policies that support the deployment of a more dynamic, resilient and sustainable electric grid. His responsibilities include policy analysis, research, stakeholder engagement and program development. A graduate of York College of Pennsylvania and the Vrije University in the Netherlands, Kyle holds a B.A. in Political Science and a MSc. in Environment and Resource Management: Energy Studies. His graduate studies focused on energy system transitions and the policies that can serve as a catalyst in realizing a more distributed system. Deliverables by Kyle include the Demand Response and Building Automation Grant Program, design of the Grid Transformation Program and the electronic application portal for MEA's Clean Energy Grant Program. Recently, Kyle co-authored the Resiliency through Microgrids Task Force Report, which laid out a roadmap for the deployment of distributed energy resources and intelligence to create a more resilient, dynamic and affordable grid. Mr. Hague serves as Senior Director of Marketing & Technology Partnerships for Gehrlicher Solar America Corp (A Company of M+W Group). His charter is to integrate market ready grid stabilization and storage solutions into commercial and utility scale PV systems. Mr. Hague's experience in renewable energy spans the value chain from device design though project development. Highlights include inventing a demand response controller to balance load against available sun, developing capital equipment for polysilicon, CDTE, and CIGS production lines, utility scale PV project development, and market analysis. He co-authored the U.S. Smart Grid Vendor Ecosystem report for the US-Department of Energy and lead research for US-Environmental Protection Agency, Shaw, Navigant Consulting, and F1000 companies to assess markets and technologies. Mr. Hague serves as Vice-Chair for the Solar Energy Industry Association (SEIA) Grid Integration Task Force, an advocate for the expansion of solar with integrated storage, co-gen, and stabilizing technologies. Mr. Hague holds a B.S in Engineering from Santa Clara University.
Katherine is a Partner and Co-Founder at 38 North Solutions, a boutique consulting firm that provides a suite of business strategy, public policy and communications services to innovative businesses and organizations. Katherine is currently President of GRID Alternatives Mid-Atlantic and Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum‘s Future of Energy Global Future Council. Katherine served as President of the GridWise Alliance, advocating for nearly $5 billion in funding for smart grid projects in the Recovery Act. Prior to that role, Katherine was a policy advisor for Good Energies, Inc., a private investment company with a portfolio in clean energy technologies of nearly $6 billion. She co-directed the American Bioenergy Association, working with the states of Maryland and New Jersey to develop renewable portfolio standards. At the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Katherine led buildings research and then managed government relations in Washington, DC. Katherine spent a decade at Virginia Power, designing overhead and underground electrical systems for commercial and residential developments. Katherine studied electrical engineering at Northern Virginia Community College and holds degrees from Cornell University and the Sorbonne. Katherine is part of The Energy Gang podcast through Greentech Media.
Julia Hamm has more than 15 years of experience advising and collaborating with utilities, manufacturers and government agencies on renewable energy and energy efficiency strategies and programs. The knowledge and experience she has gained as the President and CEO of SEPA since 2004 makes her one of the world’s foremost experts on the nexus between utilities and solar energy. Julia guides and oversees all of SEPA’s research, education, and collaboration activities for its 1,000 member companies. She has expertise on the business models and programs of utilities throughout the U.S., as well as utilities in Europe and Asia. Prior to joining SEPA, Julia worked for ICF International where she supported EPA’s implementation of the ENERGY STAR program. Julia - a graduate of Cornell University - walks the talk, living in a PV powered energy efficient home in Northern Virginia.
Jason Handley, P.E. is Director of Smart Grid Technology and Operations in the Emerging Technology Office at Duke Energy. Jason has over 18 years of electric utility experience specializing in the smart grid, distribution automation, and operations management. This role allows Jason to follow and define new technologies that may be impacting the electrical grid and oversee all of the ongoing operational aspects on new technology pilot projects in the Emerging Technology Office. Jason manages a group that develops, installs, tests, and evaluates new technologies for Duke’s electrical grid. He and his team are responsible for developing and updating the strategic roadmap for power grid devices at Duke Energy. Jason received his electrical engineering degree from Auburn University and is currently pursuing his MBA at Wake Forest University. He is a registered professional engineer and received his electrical contractors unlimited license in 2009.
Brent Harris is the Chief Technology Officer and a co-founder of Eguana Technologies, the leading supplier of power control systems for residential and commercial energy storage systems. Brent is an inventor of the Company's key technologies and has led the commercialization of the Company's products. He has a passion for decentralized energy in general and for solar power in particular. He is an active proponent of changes to the management and regulation of our electric system that will enable greater adoption of decentralized and renewable energy technologies and has been actively engaged in various industry organizations in Canada and the US. Brent is a graduate of Queens' University in Applied Science, Electrical Engineering. He is currently the chair of Decentralized Energy Canada, an industry association supporting innovation and commercialization in Canada’s decentralized energy sector.
Greg Henry’s experience spans the realm of electric operations and technology, from inside the home to bulk power generation. At Black & Veatch, he leads the development of analytic solutions for electric utility clients, applying his deep knowledge of electric transmission & distribution engineering and background in data processing, numerical analysis, and power system modeling. Prior to joining Black & Veatch, Mr. Henry has worked in utility operations and field engineering, smart grid product management and sales, and regulatory support. He is an alumni of Georgia Tech (MSECE ’04) and The University of Texas (BSEE ’03).
Mr. Hes, a graduate of Czech Technical University in Prague (Czech Republic), faculty of electrical engineering, has five years’ experience in topics related to smart grids. He started his career in Telefonica O2 (telecommunications), where he worked at the network capacity department. In 2010 he joined CEZ OZ development team (renewables) and was also responsible for RES integration into distribution networks. After three years he became a Specialist for new technologies in CEZ Distribuce (the major DSO in Czech Republic with more than 3,5 mil. customers). Now he is a Demo5 leader within Grid4EU project. Demo5 project on demonstration site Vrchlabi in Czech Republic, deals with implementation and testing of smart grid functionalities (MV automation, LV automation, island operation, power quality measurement, implementation of charging stations for E-vehicles, and distributed energy resources integration).
As Vice President of Marketing and Product Management, Fielder Hiss is responsible for distilling business strategy, translating customer needs and market opportunities into robust technology products, and developing and executing a successful marketing strategy. Fielder joined EnerNOC from 3D software company Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corporation, where he most recently served as Vice President of Product Marketing and Product Management. At SolidWorks, Fielder held several product management roles, leading successful teams and achieving company-leading results. He has also held positions at CADD Edge, Inc. (a DS SolidWorks reseller) and Intelligent Quotations, Inc. As a member of the invitation-only Boston Product Executives Forum, Fielder is also a frequent speaker on software development. Fielder holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire.
Todd is directly responsible for all aspects of Dominion Voltage Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of Dominion Energy Holdings.
Todd started with Dominion in August of 2012. Prior to joining Dominion, Todd had 12 years of executive management experience in the Smart Grid Technology industry and has worked with hundreds of utilities all over the world.
Todd was the CEO of Hunt Technologies, one of the pioneers of the AMI industry that was sold to Landis+Gyr in 2006. Todd was also the CEO and visionary of Silent Power, one of the early leaders in the small scale energy storage / distributed generation industry where he successfully closed both a Series A and Series B financing round and secured over a dozen demonstration projects with utilities in the North America.
Todd received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering in 1990 from North Dakota State University.
Marc Hoffman has been a growth oriented Sr. Executive leading Venture Capital startups and business turnarounds for Private Equity funded companies since 1998. In 2012, Marc founded Innovus Power. The company will be introducing a high efficiency electric power generator in 2014 that will enable Off-Grid Primary Power customers to save 25% in operating costs over all generators in the market today. In his prior CEO position at Glacier Bay, he led the launch and growth of the company’s primary product , ClimaCab, to a top market postion in less than 2 years. During this same period, Glacier Bay was recognized as one of INC Magazine’s Top 500 North American growth companies in 2009 finishing 99th overall and 4th among Energy Tech companies.
Joe develops new businesses for Time Warner Cable’s IntelligentHome platform, specifically in energy management, retail electricity and residential solar. Prior to Time Warner, he managed Southern California Edison's strategic alliances with residential energy management service providers, and before that negotiated long-term energy contracts and PPAs. Joe has also held leadership positions in the private equity, HVAC manufacturing and management consulting industries. He holds BA, MBA and MPA degrees from Stanford, USC and Harvard, respectively.
David Kaplan is CEO and founder of 1Energy Systems, a Seattle-based clean technology company providing software for grid-connected energy storage systems (ESS) and other electric energy assets.
In 2006, David founded V2Green to deliver the first technology platform connecting electric vehicles with the power grid. V2Green achieved national recognition as a leading clean tech company and was acquired by Gridpoint in 2008. Subsequently, David served as Grid Technologist for Snohomish County PUD, advising the General Manager and staff on new technology initiatives.
David has over 30 years of technology experience in fields such as database management, web services, and radio-frequency identification (RFID). At Microsoft, he helped to create SQL Server, Access, and the company's internet services platform.
Derek is a Principal Supervisor in Demand Side Management at DTE Electric Co. In this role, he is responsible for managing approximately 580 MW of Demand Response resources ranging from a residential direct load control air conditioning program to a number of commercial and industrial interruptible tariffs. He is charged with expanding DR capacity through both existing programs and integration of new technologies and rate design, while increasing DR integration with existing energy efficiency programs.
In addition to the Demand Response programs, Mr. Kirchner manages the Dispatchable Customer Generation program at DTE which allows for customer owned generators to offset peak demand.
Mr. Kirchner has worked in several areas at the company over his 15 years including Marketing, Generation Optimization, Major Account Services, Integrated Resource Planning, and Regulatory Pricing. He has a BA in Business Administration from the University of Detroit-Mercy and is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
Ameet Konkar is the Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives at Enphase Energy, where he focuses on bringing new technologies and solutions to the market. Since joining Enphase, Ameet has been involved in launching their revolutionary storage product, helping develop grid reliability services (DERMS) for utilities and other new solutions that leverage Enphase’s large installed base and technology leadership. Prior to Enphase, Ameet spent eight years at Bain & Co., a premier management consulting firm, where he focused on advising executives at global energy and industrial companies on growth and go-to-market strategies. Ameet holds an M.B.A. from Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania, and a M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Virginia Tech.
Lee is director of new ventures for PXiSE Energy Solutions, LLC, evangelizing PXiSE Advanced Controller Technology (“ACT”), a patented, high-speed advanced grid control technology developed to meet the evolving needs of the modern energy ecosystem. Previously, Lee was director of new ventures for Sempra Renewables, a leading developer of clean energy solutions in markets throughout the U.S. The company jointly owns and operates nearly 3,000 megawatts of wind and solar generating capacity, including two of the largest photovoltaic solar plants in the U.S., and an energy storage facility that provides ramping capability to a wind farm in Maui. He was responsible for leading the development of distributed energy solutions including solar, load optimization, bio-methane, electric vehicle charging, energy Blockchain, and microgrids.
Lee has over three decades of experience in the energy and technology industries While working at San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E), a subsidiary of Sempra Energy, he founded and served as director of smart grid and led SDG&E’s smart grid and electric vehicle initiatives. Lee was twice named one of the top 100 movers and shakers influencing the smart grid market by GreenTech Media and twice recognized as a Top 12 “Mover and Shaker” in the utility industry by Intelligent Utility Magazine. He has also been recognized as a Privacy Ambassador by The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.
Lee is a champion for sustainability on a national level. He serves on the Board of Directors of the GridWise Alliance, where he led the development of the GridWise Alliance Grid Modernization Index (GMI). The GMI has been used since 2013 to evaluate the status of electric grid modernization in the United States, to identify and promote best practices, and to provide insights to state policy makers, regulators, and other stakeholders regarding the progress of their grid modernization.
Lee currently serves on the Board of GridX, a startup that has developed the industry’s first revenue grade, utility scale, cloud-based billing engine, as a business advisor to PI Energy, a startup commercializing nano-photonic materials, and as an advisory member on the UCLA Smart Grid Energy Research Center's Leadership Council.
Prior to joining the Sempra Energy family of companies, Lee led several software development teams at Tandem Computers, and was a partner at TransPac Software, a startup in Silicon Valley. He received a bachelor’s degree with university honors in applied mathematics/computer science from Carnegie Mellon University. Most weekends he performs in improv and musical improv comedy shows.
Stuart Laval is a member of Duke Energy’s Emerging Technology office, where he has spent the past 2 years managing the technology development of telecommunication systems and leading a number of standardization efforts related to grid interoperability. Prior to his role at Duke, Stuart spent over 10 years developing over 20 products at manufacturers of utility equipment, cellular radios, and power electronics. Stuart holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from MIT, a MBA from Rollins College, and a Ph.D in Industrial Engineering from the University of Central Florida.
One of the early solar pioneers, Tom Leyden began his solar career in 1980, when he launched a solar‐thermal sales and integration company in Maryland and Virginia. Since then he has held a number of executive management positions. He was VP of Sales and Marketing at EPV, a thin-film PV manufacturer, and at WorldWater, a remote-power and solar-water‐pumping company that installed solar projects in Africa and Asia. He served as VP of East Coast Operations for PowerLight, the commercial PV pioneer bought by SunPower where he became Managing Director of SunPower’s East Coast commercial systems operation, and VP of Project Development at SolarCity. Prior to SunEdison, Tom was CEO of Solar Grid Storage, a start-up solar-plus-storage company acquired by SunEdison in January 2015. Mr. Leyden has served the industry in various other roles, including President of MDV-SEIA and MSEIA, board member of national SEIA and PV Now, and advisor to the Interstate Renewable Energy Council. Mr. Leyden holds a BA from Princeton University.
Rohan is the Senior Manager of Market Integration at SolarCity, where he works on a cross-functional team that collaborates with utilities, regulators and other stakeholders to identify opportunities to effectively integrate and leverage distributed energy resources to benefit the grid and its customers. Prior to SolarCity, Rohan worked at Pacific Gas & Electric Company in energy procurement, where he focused on comprehensive market design reform related to renewable integration, and at Clearview Energy Partners, a Washington D.C. energy economics and policy advisory firm that serves institutional investors and corporate strategists in the energy and natural resources industries. Rohan holds an MBA from the Berkeley-Haas school of business.

Joel Mickey is Director of Market Design and Development for the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). His team is tasked with providing technical and business expertise in support of stakeholder, IMM, and PUCT activities related to strategic market design initiatives. Currently this includes redesign of the ancillary services market, Multi-interval SCED, Real-time co-optimization, and Distributed Energy Resources. Mr. Mickey’s previous roles at ERCOT include: Director of Grid Operations 2009-2012, Director, Wholesale Market Operating Systems 2006-2009, and Manager, Market Operations Support 2000 to 2006. Prior to joining ERCOT, Mr. Mickey worked as a staff consultant at a software development firm specializing in energy Trading and Risk management systems for restructured electric and gas markets. He started his career in the power industry as a graduate of a power line installer program at Northwest Iowa Technical College in Sheldon, Iowa, in 1981. In 1981 he joined Houston Lighting and Power (now CenterPoint Energy, and Reliant) where he worked for 15 years in various positions including underground network tester, system controller, and staff consultant. Mr. Mickey received a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Political Science from Houston Baptist University in Houston, Texas, in 1996. He served on various committees for the North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) including Definition of Bulk Electric System, the Standards Development team for Interchange, and the Electronic Scheduling Committee. He currently is a board member on the North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB). He is a board member of OUs College of computer and electrical engineering steering committee. At ERCOT, Mr. Mickey served as the co-chair of the Texas Nodal Team’s market operations concept group and chaired the Nodal Transition Plan Task Force.
Dr. Peter Muhoro is the Vice President, Strategic Industry Research and Analysis at the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation (CFC). Peter brings technical knowledge and strategic planning expertise to electric cooperatives, and is responsible for strategic technical and industry research, business intelligence and advanced technologies trends analysis. Prior to joining CFC in 2017, Peter held several positions working for, and with electric cooperatives. Most recently, he served as the Chief Strategy Officer at Pedernales Electric Cooperative, the largest distribution electric cooperative in the U.S. Prior to that, he was an Advisor at the Cooperative Research Network, the technology research arm of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. He has previously launched several small businesses focused on energy analysis, bottom of the pyramid issues and poverty reduction through beneficial electrification. He serves on the boards of the Energy Storage Association and the Smart Electric Power Alliance, as well as other advisory committees. He is a sought-after speaker both nationally and internationally. Peter holds a B.Sc. in Physics and Mathematics from Hampton University, a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Applied Physics from the University of Michigan.
Thomas McAndrew founded Enchanted Rock Ltd. in 2006 and currently serves as the President and CEO. McAndrew brings over 34 years of experience in energy asset management ranging from large, complex nuclear plants to small distributed generation. Prior experiences include VP of Trading and Risk Management at Calpine, CEO at Progressive Power Solutions, VP of West Power Trading at Statoil, and Director at Enron. McAndrew has also served in U.S. Navy as Lieutenant. He holds B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Bojana Popovic is Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at EDF Energy Services. In her current role, Bojana is responsible for group strategy, structured product and new business development. She works with retail and wholesale clients to develop solutions for managing risk and portfolio optimization, as well as advises clients on energy markets, renewables and demand response. Prior to this role Bojana led EDF Trading’s North American Power and Natural Gas Fundamentals team as well as held roles in structuring, asset management and portfolio optimization. Prior to joining EDF, Bojana traded exotic derivatives at Lehman Brothers and held business development role at GE Oil and Gas. Bojana holds M.B.A. degree from Bocconi University (Italy) as well as degree in Statistics and Economics from University of Belgrade (Serbia).
Prior to joining K Road DG, Gerrit spent four years as President and Managing Partner of K Road Power where he led the development of 2,000 MWs of utility scale solar projects in the United States.
Before K Road Power Gerrit spent six years at Goldman Sachs, most recently as Head of Environmental Commodity Sales where he led J Aron's U.S. renewable energy and carbon market transactions. Previously, Gerrit headed development and merger and acquisition activities for The AES Corporation in Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy. Gerrit's focus on the balance between energy and the environment has shaped his career from the beginning. In 1981 Gerrit co-founded Fuel Tech Inc., a fuel efficiency technology company dedicated to reducing fuel consumption and mitigating harmful environmental emissions (NASDAQ: FTEK).
Gerrit has a BA from Harvard University cum laude, and an MA from The School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.
Chief Technology Officer Oliver Pacific joined Spirae in 2006, bringing more than 29 years of power generation experience in manufacturing, engineering, and field commissioning to the Spirae team. As CTO Mr. Pacific led the technical design of the Renewable and Distributed Systems Integration (RDSI) and FortZED projects, which successfully modernized and transformed the electrical distribution system of the downtown area of Fort Collins, Colorado, with a coordinated and integrated system of mixed distributed resources. Oliver also led the development and integration of an innovative grid management technology for Energinet.dk, the Danish transmission system operator. This project demonstrates hybrid system operation of a high penetration of wind and distributed energy resources with advanced distribution functions, such as self-healing and islanded operations. Oliver’s previous experience includes extensive work with Allison, GE, Kawasaki, and Yanmar gas turbines from 1MW to 300MW in size, and diesels from Detroit Diesel (DDC/MTU), Electro Motive (EMD), and Caterpillar from 250KW-35MW. Mr. Pacific also worked for Valley Power Systems for 13 years, where he served as Operations Manager for the power products division and managed manufacturing and engineering with more than 100 employees and annual sales of $30 million. Oliver received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Idaho State University.
Antoine is a serial entrepreneur currently serving as the founder, President and CEO of Solantro, an Ottawa based fabless semiconductor company delivering next generation semiconductor based solutions for distributed power generation solutions. He is also a partner at Rho, a diversified private equity firm based in New York, Montreal and Palo Alto, CA.
For more than 20 years, he has defined and shaped the direction of several notable and groundbreaking technology firms, including Axiom Microdevices Inc., Philsar Semiconductor Inc. and Skystone Systems Inc.
Mr. Paquin serves as a director on the board of Accedian Networks. Prior to that point, Mr. Paquin served on a number of prominent public and private company boards, including GMP Capital, one of Canada’s premier investment banks, and Public Mobile, one of Canada’s new Cellular Operators.
Antoine has received several awards during his entrepreneurial career, including Entrepreneur of the Year for the Nation's Capital, recipient of the National Research Council's Innovator of the Year Award, and recipient of the IWAY awards for exceptional entrepreneurial achievements (Canada's Information Highway Initiative).

Naimish Patel is the Founder and CEO of Gridco Systems, a leader in agile grid infrastructure solutions, enabling utilities to more effectively integrate renewable and distributed generation, increase energy efficiency, manage peak capacity, and improve system reliability. Previously, Naimish was an EIR at General Catalyst Partners. Prior to joining General Catalyst, Naimish was one of the four founding team members of Sycamore Networks. Naimish holds B.S., M.S., and M.Eng. degrees in electrical engineering from MIT and is the holder of 18 patents. He serves on the Advanced Energy Economy Board of Directors and on the President’s Council at Olin College.
Tim Qualheim is Vice President—Strategic Solutions at S&C Electric Company (S&C), a smart grid leader shaping the future of power delivery by applying its century-long history of innovation to improve grid reliability and resiliency. Qualheim is responsible for the strategy and direction of S&C’s solutions around the world which include switching technology that carry and direct the flow of electricity, the software and communications that are enabling advanced grid control, and energy storage in both the substation and at the grid’s edge. He carries over 25 years of utility focused power industry experience.
Russell Ragsdale is a Strategic Planning Principal Manager of Grid Modernization at Southern California Edison. In his current role, he is working to develop strategy for and implement distribution grid modernization. This effort includes enhanced distribution and substation automation, advanced communications networks, IT system architecture and cybersecurity, as well as a suite of planning and operations tools to enable integration of DERs into planning and operations. In addition to deployment of technology, grid modernization will result in an evolved workforce and streamlined processes that can complement technology to provide safe, reliable service to electric customers. Russell has over 10 years of experience in distribution system planning, distribution operations engineering, system planning software development, and strategic planning. Most recently, he led several efforts as part of SCE’s Distribution Resource Plan team where SCE outlined their plan to facilitate the integration of DERs and modernize the distribution Grid. Russell holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, Pomona and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California. He is currently pursuing an Executive MBA from the Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University. Russell lives in Rancho Cucamonga, California with his wife and their 2 children. When not working, he enjoys hiking, camping, and family vacations.
Greg Rosen is Chief Investment Officer of Powerhive, a technology venture founded in 2011 whose proprietary technology platform and business model enables the financing, monetization, and management of distributed microgrid solutions. He is a 16-year renewables finance veteran who has developed or financed more than $400 million worth of residential, commercial and utility solar projects. Prior to PowerHive, he ran High Noon Advisors where he acquired renewable energy projects for an equity investor and advised several companies on fund structuring and renewable market analysis. Prior to that Mr. Rosen served as the first Chief Investment Officer at Mosaic where he originated solar loans and raised a $100 million fund from PartnerRE as well as funding from thousands of individual investors. Prior to Mosaic, Mr. Rosen served as Vice President of Solar Finance at Union Bank where he originated and closed tax equity and syndicated loan transactions. Previously, he raised and managed a tax equity fund for Citi and held various other positions in finance and investment banking, including several years at PowerLight and SunPower Corporations where he financed many industry-leading solar projects. Mr. Rosen holds both a Bachelors and Masters Degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Heather Rosentrater joined Avista Corp in 1996 while studying Electrical Engineering at Gonzaga University. She graduated from Gonzaga in 1999 and was hired on full-time with Avista as an Engineer. Heather has held several engineering and leadership positions during her 19 years at Avista. She is currently Avista’s Director of Engineering and leads the Transmission and Distribution Engineering groups as well as the company’s Smart Grid and Smart City efforts. Heather is a registered Professional Engineer, leads the Engineering / Applied Science Alumni Council (EASAC) at Gonzaga University, and is on the Advisory Council for Washington State University’s School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
John Radgowski is the VP Solutions Product Management for Landis+Gyr Americas. In this role, he is focused on providing cross functional smart grid solutions that span from the customer to the grid operator. Prior to joining Landis+Gyr, Mr. Radgowski was Co-Founder and Chief Technologist for Dominion Voltage Inc., a company focused on providing grid optimization and analytics solutions that leverage the latest in advanced metering technology. Mr. Radgowski has worked in the utility industry for over eleven years and his experience spans numerous technology, policy and business areas, including NERC CIP and smart grid business case development. He was Chief Architect for Dominion Resources, one of the nation’s largest utilities, where he focused on technology investment strategy across Dominions generation, transmission, and distribution organizations. Mr. Radgowski has a degree in computer information systems. He and his wife reside in the greater Atlanta area with their three children.

He has worked for a US and a European utility, internet and enterprise software companies, as well as wind and solar companies including such companies at Google, EDF and PSE&G. Roles have included finance, engineering, supply chain and sales.
Geoff holds an MBA from Cornell University and degree in Mechanical Engineering.
David Schwarz is the Vice President of Product for Blue Pillar – an Industrial Internet of Things and critical power platform company. Mr. Schwarz joined Blue Pillar in 2013. He brings over 15 years of management, business strategy, and intelligence experience to the Blue Pillar team. Prior to Blue Pillar, David held executive and management roles at Mid-continent ISO (MISO Energy), United Parcel Service, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where he was a Presidential Fellow. David has a background in finance and venture capital. As an Officer in the reserves, David has held intelligence and leadership roles in Cyber Security, Special Operations, and Counter-proliferation. David holds a B.S. and MPA from Indiana University and has conducted executive studies with Stanford University. Mr. Schwarz is also a member of the Association of Energy Engineers, the Defense Council, and the Council on Foreign Relations.

Dr. Martha Symko-Davies is the Director of Partnerships for Energy Systems Integration (ESI) at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden. Dr. Symko-Davies has developed over 50 partnerships with key stakeholders in the area of Energy Systems Integration (ESI) to address the challenges of systems integration at all scales from residential to utility. Enabling this integration is the Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF) which is the nation’s first research facility able to conduct integrated megawatt-scale research, development, and testing of the components and strategies needed to safely integrate clean energy technologies seamlessly into the electrical infrastructure at the speed and scale. Prior to this role she was the architect and integrator for the PV Technology Incubator, funded in part by the Department of Energy, resulting in over $1.4 billion in private investments. Dr. Symko-Davies was recognized by DOE as one of the top innovators in the area of photovoltaics, and recently received four R&D 100 Awards and recognition by the Denver Business Journal as a 2014 “Top Women in Energy.”
Mr. Carmine Tilghman is the Senior Director of Energy Supply for UNS Energy, parent company for Tucson Electric Power and UNS Electric, Inc. His primary responsibilities are to oversee all aspects of wholesale marketing & power trading activities, fuel contracts and procurement, and renewable energy procurement. Mr. Tilghman has over 30 years’ experience in the energy production and procurement industry; including conventional and renewable energy. Prior to joining TEP, he spent 9 years as a nuclear reactor operator in the United States Navy submarine service.
Barbara Tyran is Director, Washington Relations, in EPRI’s regional office in Washington, D.C. She serves as the principal liaison between EPRI executive management, and Congress, the Administration, the national trade associations, the national leadership of the state public utility commissions, and the Washington energy community. Ms. Tyran joined EPRI in 1998 after serving for several years as Manager of Federal Government Affairs for two electric utilities, Kansas City Power & Light and Empire District Electric Company. Previously, she was the Washington representative for the Detroit Edison Company. Ms. Tyran holds a B.A. degree with Honors from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from Yale University. The Secretary of Commerce appointed her to the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Energy and Energy Services, and she has been a member of it since 2005. Ms. Tyran also serves on the Industrial Advisory Board at Lehigh University’s Energy Systems Engineering Institute.
Rémy Garaude Verdier is a Smart Grids Project Manager within Electricité Réseau Distribution France (ERDF). He is a civil engineer with an MBA from Lausanne IMD (Switzerland). He has worked in a variety of jobs during a 10-year career at EDF Group. His previous roles include managing the integration of the EDF Group’s SAP solution to its new nuclear build division in the UK and the US, and managing the purchase and engineering domains in the biggest SAP deployment completed to date (more than 80,000 users). Prior to joining EDF Group, he managed several large construction projects around the world for VINCI Group.
With more than 17 years of energy industry experience, Bud Vos has in-depth experience with providing high-value software solutions to utilities. As president and CEO of Enbala, Bud is leading the company through the next phase of its business growth as it continues to expand its industry-leading Virtual Power Plant and DERMS solutions. Bud previously served as the COO of Simple Energy, a SaaS-based company that leverages data analytics to motivate utility customers to save energy. He was also senior vice president of utility sales and CTO of Comverge, a leading provider of integrated demand response, energy efficiency and customer engagement solutions. In addition, Bud was founder and vice president of engineering at Sixth Dimension, a provider of Internet-based control systems for demand response and distributed generation systems.

Jon Wellinghoff is known for his international expertise and thought leadership in energy policy, electric markets and the interface of disruptive energy systems with traditional utility structures. His firm GridPolicy, Inc. is dedicated to furthering the deployment of and investment in clean sustainable distributed energy resources (DERs). Jon works to remove regulatory, policy, and institutional barriers to the widespread adoption of cost effective DER technologies and systems, assisting companies, governments, and consumers who market and/or operate such resources. In 2006, Jon received his first of two Presidential appointments to serve as a Commissioner on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and was FERC’s longest serving Chairman (2009- 2013). During his FERC tenure, he led efforts to make the U.S. power system cleaner and more efficient by promoting and integrating renewable energy, demand response, energy efficiency and storage.
Emily Wheeler is the VP of Operations for Smarter Grid Solutions. Prior to joining SGS she was the Director of Cleantech Initiatives at NYU and led the New York City Accelerator for a Clean and Resilient Economy (NYC ACRE). She was also a co-creator and the Director of Operations for PowerBridgeNY. Her previous work experience includes performance of over $8 billion of technical due diligence for first-of-a-kind technology at the US Department of Energy’s Loan program office and heading up the SOFC R&D program at the Department of Energy. In 2013, she was named to Breaking Energy’s list of New York’s Top 10 Young Energy Leaders for 2013. She attended George Washington University and holds a Chemical Engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Bradley Williams is Vice President of Oracle Utilities Product Management, and is responsible for outage management, distribution management, mobile workforce management, work and asset management, and load analysis utility applications and smart grid strategy. Mr. Williams has more than 24 years of utility technology innovation experience. Prior to joining Oracle, he was a research director for Gartner's Energy and Utilities Industry Advisory Services, focusing on utility applications of GIS, SCADA/EMS/DMS, outage and work management, and transmission and distribution asset management research. Prior to that, he directed PacifiCorp's T&D asset management and was responsible for long-term asset strategies and business technology that developed and implemented comprehensive IT investment programs. As Director of T&D Infrastructure Planning, he was responsible for PacifiCorp's subtransmission planning, telecommunications, and operations technology development groups. Mr. Williams also worked at Southern California Edison for 10 years, where he was involved in transmission system planning, distribution automation, and reliability programs.
James is a Vice President with Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners, a North America focused private equity firm investing across the infrastructure spectrum. At Stonepeak, James has been involved with investments across a broad range of infrastructure sectors including energy, utilities, renewables, transportation, water, and public private partnerships. Prior to joining Stonepeak, James was a member of Credit Suisse’s global energy group, where he focused on the power and renewables sectors. James holds a BA in Economics from Yale University.
Ilén leads the Enphase Energy Management System product team, and is responsible for advancing this Enphase technology solution across all target business segments. Previously, Ilén served as Enphase’s director of product management for the residential segment and prior to that role was the principal software manager of the Enphase Enlighten product, where she led the cross-functional team of software engineers, product managers and technical writers. With 15 years of combined e-learning software, SaaS and website development expertise, Ilén has enhanced the overall Enlighten platform and its mobile installer tools that measure the output and efficiency of solar energy systems. Ilén holds a B.A. in humanities from New College of the University of South Florida.
Rick Thompson co-founded Greentech Media in 2007, leading the company from unknown upstart to the authoritative information services provider covering the transformation of the global electricity system.
Prior to GTM, Thompson spent 15 years at leading technology startups, incumbent networking and telecommunications companies, and technology media and market research firms. Rick was senior telecom analyst at Light Reading/Heavy Reading, the dominant online media & research firm in the telecommunications market, acquired by CMP Media in 2005. Mr. Thompson previously served as the vice president of marketing at PanGo Networks, a wireless software startup, and as director of product management and marketing at Sycamore Networks Inc., where he defined the product strategy and launch of the industry’s first intelligent optical switching platform through their IPO in 1999. Under his leadership, Sycamore deployed several of the world’s largest intelligent optical network infrastructures. Prior to joining Sycamore, Rick held product management positions with Packet Engines, a pioneer of Gigabit Ethernet switching that was later acquired by Alcatel; and FORE Systems, a leader in ATM networking that was later acquired by Marconi and, subsequently, Ericsson. Mr. Thompson earned a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
Steve is the Director of Consulting & Content Strategy. He previously led GTM Research's Grid Edge program, which includes chairing the annual Grid Edge Live conference, overseeing the Grid Edge Executive Council and developing research related to the changing regulatory and business models associated with the energy system of the future. Before GTM, Steve was a Manager at Ernst & Young counseling power and utility companies on business planning, program development and operational improvement initiatives. Prior to that, Steve spent multiple years at PG&E in a variety of customer engagement and program management roles ranging from the Smart Grid deployment to energy efficiency and demand side management initiatives. Steve holds an MBA from INSEAD and a B.A. in Economics from The George Washington University.
Ravi is the head of solar research at Wood Mackenzie, where he focuses on solar-plus-storage, solar integration on the grid and related power markets issues. Prior to his current role, he was the head of Wood Mackenzie’s energy storage research practice and covered global storage markets and value chain analysis. As an industry expert, Ravi has been quoted in various publications including New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Forbes, Bloomberg, National Public Radio, BBC, Christian Science Monitor, Wired, and Verge. Ravi has over 10 years of experience in renewables as a consultant, analyst and engineer. Ravi holds a Master of International Business degree from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering degree from University of Washington, Seattle and a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, India.
Ben is the Director of Grid Research for Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables (Formerly GTM Research), specializing in Distribution Automation, Network Management and Renewables Integration markets. He previously worked as a research analyst for Knwldg Houston, formerly a green energy and healthcare consulting firm, where his research focused on AMI deployment and smart grid regulatory policy. Prior to Knwldg Houston, Ben was a policy intern with Wexler and Walker Public Policy Associates where he performed research for energy, transportation, and defense clients.
He has authored multiple studies on the smart grid market, concentrating on policy evolution, technology innovation, the market's competitive landscape and project economics. Ben has delivered keynote presentations for multiple industry conferences, moderated and participated in panels covering a variety of topics, and regularly hosts industry webinars with GTM Research / Greentech Media. Ben has been a smart grid contributor on CNN Money, NPR, and the Texas Tribune. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science.
Omar Saadeh is a Senior Analyst with GTM Research and is the lead author of the Grid Edge Customer Network executive briefings. Omar has published numerous utility and smart grid market reports covering policy development, the competitive technology landscape, market evolution and business model economics. He has delivered keynote presentations at industry conferences and has contributed to publications such as Bloomberg, ComputerWorld, E&E’s ClimateWire, PV-Tech, Utility Dive, Yahoo News, and others.
Before joining GTM Research, Omar completed a Master of Engineering degree in power engineering at McGill University, where he was awarded a Graduate Excellence Fellowship, authored research for IEEE and Cigré, and contributed as a staff writer to The McGill Daily. He has also worked as a building efficiency sales associate at Johnson Controls and holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from McGill University with a minor in economics.
