Rob Day is a Partner with Black Coral Capital, based in Boston. He has been a cleantech private equity investor since 2004, and acts or has served as a Director, Observer and advisory board member to multiple companies in the energy tech and related sectors, currently including Digital Lumens, Next Step Living, Noesis and Powerit Solutions.
Rob was previously a co-founder of the Renewable Energy Business Network, a non-profit organization which was acquired in 2009 by the Clean Economy Network, and he currently serves on the Board of the New England Clean Energy Council. Since 2005 he has also authored the website Cleantech Investing, which currently appears on GreentechMedia.com.
Formerly a consultant with Bain & Company, Rob has worked with companies and evaluated private equity transactions in the energy/ utilities, telecom, IT, medical/pharmaceutical, and retail industries. Earlier in his career, Rob was a member of the World Resources Institute's Sustainable Enterprise Program, where he co-authored the report The Next Bottom Line: Making Sustainable Development Tangible.
Scott heads up Energy Partner Products for Nest Labs, maker of the Nest Learning Thermostat. The Nest Learning Thermostat learns about you and your home to automatically turn itself down when you're away, guide you to energy-efficient temperatures when you’re home, and free you from programming hassles by creating a customized temperature schedule.
Previously, Scott oversaw EnerNOC’s business development activities and continued growth in the Western United States and then outside of the United States, working with utilities, regulators, and customers in demand response program design, and enrolling customers in available programs. In this capacity, Scott opened EnerNOC’s UK office to establish the company’s first presence outside of North America. Earlier in his career, Scott spent a few years as a management consultant for Bain and Company, providing strategic and operational support for electric utilities and other international clients.
Scott holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Engineering from Stanford University, and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He has been published and spoken extensively on issues relating to breakthrough approaches to energy management, and currently resides in Menlo Park, CA.
Mike Allman is an accomplished CEO and Chairman with a highly successful career growing, restructuring, and optimizing business strategy and operations in both the corporate world and with a top-tier global consulting firm. Since 1998, Mike has held a number of leadership positions with Sempra Energy, a $33 billion Fortune 300 energy services holding company in San Diego, CA. His most recent position was Chairman, President and CEO of Southern California Gas Company, the $4 billion, largest natural gas distribution company in the United States. Previously Mike was President and CEO of Sempra Generation, a $2 billion electric generation business. Earlier, Mike had an 11 year career at The LEK/Alcar Consulting Group, holding Partner-level business development and consulting roles in the U.S., Europe, and South Africa. Mike received an MBA with Finance specialization from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University.
Nancy Pfund is Founder and Managing Partner of DBL Investors, a venture capital firm located in San Francisco. Ms. Pfund currently sponsors or sits on the board of directors of a number of companies, including; SolarCity (NASDAQ: SCTY), BrightSource Energy, Primus Power, Eco.logic Brands, EcoScraps, OPx Biotechnologies, Powergenix and, prior to their public offerings, Tesla Motors and Pandora Media. Previously, Ms. Pfund worked at JPMorgan (then Hambrecht & Quist) from 1984 - 2008 first as a securities analyst and then as a Venture Capital Partner and Managing Director. Ms. Pfund received her BA and MA in anthropology from Stanford University, and her MBA from the Yale School of Management.
Jon Wellinghoff is known for his international expertise and thought leadership in energy policy, electric markets and the interface of disruptive energy systems with traditional utility structures. His firm GridPolicy, Inc. is dedicated to furthering the deployment of and investment in clean sustainable distributed energy resources (DERs). Jon works to remove regulatory, policy, and institutional barriers to the widespread adoption of cost effective DER technologies and systems, assisting companies, governments, and consumers who market and/or operate such resources. In 2006, Jon received his first of two Presidential appointments to serve as a Commissioner on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and was FERC’s longest serving Chairman (2009- 2013). During his FERC tenure, he led efforts to make the U.S. power system cleaner and more efficient by promoting and integrating renewable energy, demand response, energy efficiency and storage.
Claire is Chief of New Markets and Services at Next Step Living, a whole home energy efficiency contractor which has a mission to make it easy, affordable and rewarding for homeowners to implement energy-savings solutions. NSL has served over 98,000 customers. Claire was responsible for opening the Connecticut and most recently the New York offices for NSL and also launched NSL’s community solar product. Prior to NSL, Claire was Vice President at Serious Energy, managing the nascent commercial financing program. In 2009-2010, she was the Acting Program Manager of the Office of Weatherization and Intergovernmental Programs and an energy efficiency advisor to Secretary Chu at the Department of Energy, where she guided deployment of $11 billion in stimulus funds for clean energy while also championing policies that expand the impact of public investment through engagement with private capital.
She is a Co-Founder of SunEdison, North America’s largest solar energy services provider ([url=http://www.sunedison.com]http://www.sunedison.com[/url]) where she was responsible for market development, renewable energy credit portfolio management, sales, marketing, finance and operations. She worked as an electricity deal originator and manager of long term renewable energy contracts at Constellation Power Source, Enron North America and GE Capital. Mrs. Johnson holds a B.A. in Environmental Science & Public Policy from Harvard College, where she helped to create that major, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Josh Green joined Mohr Davidow’s team in 2006 and has been instrumental in developing a cross-discipline practice that includes a wide range of startups including those focused on LED lighting, biochemicals and Lithium production. Today, he is focused primarily on the nexus of cleantech and information technology. Josh also works with several healthcare companies in the Mohr Davidow portfolio.
In a 25-year career in law, Josh built two law firms to 150 lawyers each and acted as an advisor to some of Silicon Valley’s legendary startups in the computer, Internet, telecommunications, biotech and medical device industries. Josh gained a breadth of knowledge that makes him uniquely qualified for an investment area that spans multiple industries. He is the Chairman-elect of the National Venture Capital Association.
Josh graduated magna cum laude from UCLA in 1977 and the UCLA School of Law in 1980 where he was on the Law Review.
Prior to forming Upwelling, Joncarlo was a Senior Portfolio Manager in the Alternative Investment Management (AIM) Program at the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), the largest public pension fund in the US, with approximately $240 billion in overall assets. He was a part of the senior leadership team responsible for investing in global private equity partnerships and direct investments, with a portfolio that exceeds $48 billion. During his tenure, Joncarlo represented CalPERS on multiple fund advisory boards and held Board of Director observer seats for a number of AIM portfolio companies. In addition, he served as Chairman of the Board for the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA) from 2007 to 2010, whose 250 member institutions manage more than $1 trillion of private equity capital. Joncarlo is currently an Advisory Board member for the Private Capital Research Institute (PCRI), a non-profit organization that works with the Brookings Institution to further the understanding of the economic impact of private capital through independent academic studies. He also serves as a Volunteer Advisor for the UC Davis Foundation Finance and Investment Committee. Prior to joining CalPERS, Joncarlo spent six years with Premier Farnell PLC, a global industrial products manufacturing and distribution company. Joncarlo earned an MBA from the University of California, Davis Graduate School of Management and received a BA from the University of California, San Diego.
Jost Bendel studied Business Administration with focus on technology management at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland and Peking University in China. After his graduation he started at the internal management consultancy of Siemens AG. He became a Project Manager until 2009, and then Vice President & Partner. During this time he was specializing in Industry and Digital Enterprise. Jost Bendel has been the Business Segment Head for Energy & Environmental Services within the Industry Sector since April 2013.
Aimée Christensen is CEO of Christensen Global Strategies and manages the Christensen family office overseeing a portfolio of equity, debt and fund investments. Her clients have included the Clinton Global Initiative, Duke Energy, Microsoft, Swiss Re, the United Nations, Virgin Unite and Wolfensohn & Co. She has two decades’ experience including with Google, the World Bank, Baker & McKenzie, and the U.S. Department of Energy. Aimée wrote the first university endowment investment policy on climate change (Stanford University, 1999) and was the 2011 Hillary Laureate and a 2010 Aspen Catto Fellow. She graduated from Smith College and Stanford Law School.
Tim Newell is leading a new SolarCity initiative to provide a broad range of investors – including individuals – with access to innovative financial products backed by SolarCity’s growing pool of solar assets. Mr. Newell joined SolarCity’s management team in December 2013 following SolarCity’s acquisition of Common Assets, a financial technology company where Mr. Newell had been a founder and CEO. As CEO of Common Assets, Mr. Newell led the development of a financial platform designed to allow a wide array of individual and institutional investors to participate in financing renewable energy projects. Between 2009 and 2013, Mr. Newell also served as a Senior Advisor for US Renewables Group, a private equity firm focused on investments in renewable energy companies that was the founding investor in Common Assets. Prior to his investment career, Mr. Newell served in a number of positions in the U.S. government, most recently as Deputy Director for Policy in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy under the Clinton Administration. Mr. Newell received a BA in Economics from Brown University.
Andrew Dillon is a co-founder of Varentec, a company focusing on applying power electronics to achieve dynamic control and energy conservation on the electric grid. Andrew has expertise in the areas of smart grid solutions, advanced technology commercialization, Volt VAR Optimization, grid efficiency, as well as cloud software.
With academic degrees in electrical engineering as well as communication technologies, Andrew has spoken at events hosted by IEEE, DOE, EPRI and others. Over 15 years in the area of technology commercialization, start-ups, and business building, Andrew has raised funds for companies in excess of $20m, and assisted the introduction of multiple new products to the marketplace.
Tim joined Prelude Ventures in 2013 as a Managing Director after 15 years with Nth Power. For Nth Power, he led the firm’s successful investments in Evergreen Solar (ESLR), Comverge (COMV) and Proton Energy Systems (DESC).
Tim received his MBA with honors from The Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA and his BS in Resource Economics from UC Berkeley in 1982.

Dan Adler is Managing Director of the California Clean Energy Fund (CalCEF), a nonprofit, evergreen investment fund created to advance the clean energy economy. Mr. Adler is responsible for CalCEF's investments across six funds in venture capital and project finance, and leads the firm's efforts to identify catalytic new investment theses. Prior to joining CalCEF, Mr. Adler was senior staff at the California Public Utilities Commission, where he was responsible for the design and implementation of California’s Renewables Portfolio Standard and for climate change policy. He serves as Board co-chair of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), on the Boards of Directors of the Coalition for Green Capital and the Vote Solar Initiative, and on the Board of Advisors of the Clean Tech Open.
Renewable Funding is a finance company that provides innovative clean energy solutions to governments, utilities, and private sector clients in the United States and internationally. The firm administers all aspects of energy financing programs, builds technology systems to simplify program and consumer engagement, and delivers capital for energy improvements. Renewable Funding has provided services to over 200 state and local governments, including the States of California, Pennsylvania, Hawaii, and many others.
Previously, as Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Berkeley, he envisioned and led the initial development of the first Property Assessed Clean Energy Program (PACE) program, which allows property owners to pay for solar installations and energy efficiency projects as a line item on their property tax bill. DeVries also served as an appointee in the administration of President Bill Clinton, serving as an aide to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation and the U.S. Secretary of Energy.
Shahin has worked with Lux Capital since 2006, focusing on investments in energy and technology. He is a Partner based in Lux's Palo Alto office. Before joining Lux, he held technical positions at General Motors and several Silicon Valley technology startups. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering Computer Science with College of Engineering Honors from the University of California at Berkeley, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering with a Minor in Management from the University of California at Los Angeles. Shahin has also served as a Postdoctoral Scholar at the UCLA department of Electrical Engineering, and Staff Research Associate at the California NanoSystems Institute. His research on wireless biosignal telemetry has been published in over ten IEEE conference proceedings and three IEEE journals.
Shahin sourced Lux's investments in Silicon Clocks (acquired by NASDAQ:SLAB), SiBEAM (acquired by NASDAQ:SIMG), Planet Labs and Flex Logix, and played key roles in Lux's investments in Everspin and Luxtera. He works closely in supporting all of Lux's energy and technology companies. Shahin has been an invited speaker/panelist at a variety of Universities and organizations including the IEEE, UC Berkeley, Stanford, UCLA, UCI, the California Cleantech Initiative, OCTane, and the MIT Club of Silicon Valley.
Henrik holds an MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University and an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Twente. He is also a Six Sigma Academy (SSA & Company) certified Six Sigma & Lean Black Belt. He started his career in telecommunications with Alcatel-Lucent and Telefonica. With Shell, Henrik worked predominantly in Upstream Commercial, both in operational and business development roles. Prior to joining STV, Henrik worked as an Enterprise Supplier Manager on the development of various Equipment category strategies and negotiated long-term Enterprise Framework Agreements. He managed the end-to-end relationships with Group Suppliers such as ABB, Honeywell and Emerson to drive consistent supplier performance, reduce cost, foster innovation and build long term partnerships.
Mr. Irvin is Senior Vice President and head of Hannon's San Francisco office. Mac most recently served as CFO at Sungevity, a venture-backed residential solar sales and leasing company, where he raised corporate equity, project equity and debt, and led the accounting, procurement and contract administration teams. Prior to joining Sungevity, Mac served as Managing Director of Structured Finance and Business Development at Sunpower, where he was responsible for funding the company’s residential, commercial and utility scale projects. Prior to Sunpower, Mac served as CFO for BPL Global, as Managing Director with GATX Capital, and as Regional General Manager with RailTex, Inc., a three-time Inc. 500 company. Mac holds a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas, Austin.
Joseph Kopser is the CEO and co-founder of RideScout, an Austin startup working to revolutionize how people view ground transportation. He is also Chairman of the Defense Energy Center of Excellence.
Before building RideScout, Joseph served for 20 years in the U.S. Army, including an assignment in the Pentagon as a Special Assistant to the Army Chief of Staff. During his Army career, he earned distinction as a Cavalry officer, Bronze Star recipient and Army Ranger. Joseph graduated from West Point as an Aerospace Engineer in 1993 and subsequently received a Masters in Government Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School.
In November 2013, the White House recognized Joseph as a Champion of Change for his work as a Veteran in Clean Energy. He is also a Next Generation Project Texas Fellow at the Strauss Center for International Security and Law at UT-Austin with a focus on Energy Policy. He serves on the Board of Directors of CleanTX and is a founding member of the Steering Committee for the Defense Energy Center of Excellence Initiative (DECoE).

Bob is the CEO of LocalGrid Technologies. He formed the company to help solve the challenges distribution utilities face integrating renewables and developing a smarter grid. Through his company and involvement in WindShare, a wind power co-operative, Bob is dedicated to advancing renewable energy sources. Bob graduated from Queen’s University with a degree in Mathematics Engineering. He has used his education in control and communication systems to engineer embedded solutions for a variety of industries over the last 10 years. Bob has history working with startups in areas of embedded technology, engineering services, and the energy sector.
David S. Miller, Ph.D. is a founder and Executive Managing Director of CEVG. An engineer by training, he brings over 20 years of technology startup management experience and over 15 years of seed stage investing experience. He has been on the board of directors or advisory board of several clean energy companies, including Azima DLI, Next Step Living, MyEnergy, and Cambrian Innovation and has mentored many others. He previously served as Director in Lucent’s New Ventures Group and is currently a research affiliate at MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
David is a New England Chapter Director of Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2), a national community of business leaders who advocate for good environmental policy while building economic prosperity ([url=http://www.e2.org]http://www.e2.org[/url]) and has developed relationships with state and federal policy makers to support the growth of the clean energy industry. He is a founding member of the MIT Enterprise Forum’s Energy Special Interest Group and has previously chaired the mentor program for what is now the Northeast Cleantech Open for four years. David also co-founded EPrime, which is a forum for clean energy entrepreneurs to network and support each other’s enterprises, was a board member of New England Energy and Environmental Funders, which educated investors interested in energy and environmental companies, and was a founding advisory board member of the New England Clean Energy Council.
Previously, David founded several companies, including Quantum Telecom Solutions which developed software for programmable switching equipment. He grew the company to profitability, with over 100% annual growth over a four-year period and then negotiated venture financing and sold the company to a division of Lucent Technologies. At Lucent, he served as Director in the New Ventures Group where he managed and evaluated a diverse set of early stage investments.
David was awarded a patent for co-developing a “one number” telecom service, and taught at Rutgers University in the Electrical Engineering Department. He received his BS and MS in Computer Science and Engineering from MIT, and completed his doctorate at MIT’s Lab for Energy and the Environment where he studied the utilization and commercialization of distributed generation and energy efficiency measures. His dissertation examined the impact of a variety of management and investment strategies and public policy initiatives on the success of new clean energy ventures. As a research affiliate at MIT’s Sloan School of Management, he supervises the continuation of this work. David lives in Newton, MA with his wife and two children.
Sean M. Moran is a partner in Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati's Los Angeles office, where he specializes in renewable energy, project finance, and infrastructure assets. Instrumental in creating the structure that has become the standard for renewable energy deals in the United States, Sean has handled many of the country's largest and most complex renewable energy financing transactions, including numerous first-of-its-kind deals.In the course of his practice, Sean represents Fortune 50 companies, investors, utilities, sponsors, and developers. His clients include some of the largest investors in the renewable energy market, collectively investing more than $15 billion in renewable energy generation. His projects include solar, geothermal, biomass, biofuel, wind energy, and waste-to-energy facilities that generate more than 20,000 megawatts per year in 44 states.
Sean also represents clients in fossil fuel energy generation facilities, including those utilizing natural gas, coal, and oil and gas. In addition, he represents clients in a wide variety of other infrastructure projects, such as transmission systems, toll roads, transportation systems, and water and waste treatment facilities. His broad expertise includes tax issues related to capital markets transactions and derivative products, M&A and private equity, reorganizations and bankruptcy, structured finance, and affordable housing. Prior to joining the firm, Sean was a partner in Sidley Austin's Los Angeles office. Early in his career, he clerked for the Honorable Joseph M. McLaughlin in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Sean is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences, and his articles have appeared in a variety of publications.
Jason Scott is a co-founder and Partner of EKO. Jason was most recently a founding Director and investment analyst at Generation Investment Management, co-founded by David Blood and former Vice President Al Gore, Jr. As its first employee, Jason helped build the firm and its first and second products, investing in global listed equities and climate change solutions respectively. From 1999 to 2004, Jason worked with Acumen Fund, Flatiron Future Fund/Foundation and New Philanthropy Capital. From 1996-1999, Jason was President of a NYC-based software company. Previously, Jason helped found and build Public Allies, a youth and community development organization.
In 1998, the Rockefeller Foundation selected Jason as a fellow in its Next Generation Leadership Program. He co-founded Cleantech for Obama and served on several transition advisory boards for the Obama Administration and is currently on the boards of Oil Change International and Public Allies. Jason also co-founded and jointly leads a network of family offices investing in Cleantech, Renewables and other Environmental Opportunities (the CREO Network). Jason graduated from Duke University and has an MBA jointly from Columbia and London Business Schools.
Paul Straub brings a successful 15-year track record of working with entrepreneurs at the earliest stages of company development and leading investments in information technology startups. Paul is particularly focused on the potential of digital and business innovation to advance broad-impact core industries.
Paul represents CCV on the Boards of Alphabet Energy, Blue Pillar, Clean Power Finance, Project Frog, Renewable Funding (observer) and Yerdle (observer). He also currently manages the firm’s investment in Root3 Technologies. He previously managed the firm’s investments as a board observer at Property Bridge (acquired by MGI) and Lefora/Meetro (acquired).
Prior to Claremont Creek, Paul invested in software and datacenter technology companies at Information Technology Ventures/Infinity Capital, including co-leading the first institutional round of Cyanea (acquired by IBM) where he was a board observer. Paul worked in product management and strategy roles leading projects for VERITAS Software and Red Hat Software. Paul began his career in investment banking at Montgomery Securities. Subsequently he joined Thomas Weisel Partners at the firm’s inception where he executed over $7B across more than a dozen M&A and capital raising transactions.
Paul earned an MBA from Duke University and a BS from the University of Virginia. Paul serves on the advisory board for Duke University’s Center for Energy, Development and the Global Environment.
Paul Spencer leads the vision and strategic direction for Clean Energy Co (CEC), the nation’s leading community solar developer and solutions provider. Mr. Spencer has an extensive background in green development, energy efficiency, and building successful organizations. He has built ten companies in the last 30 years within various industries including energy, software, systems engineering, medical, brokerage, and real estate development. He holds an electrical engineering degree from Colorado State University.
Mr. Spencer’s vision and leadership driving new innovation in clean energy resources has spawned an entirely new market, and is directly influencing the shift toward clean energy. He is a respected expert on current and emerging developments in distributed energy generation and its role in broader energy markets with respect to financial structures, utility assimilation, IT systems, and long-term asset and customer management. Through his leadership, CEC has built or developed more than 380MW of community solar projects over the past ten years, with 87 projects currently connected to the grid across 17 states and 35 utility partners – serving nearly 8,000 customers.
Becca is passionate about bringing change to our energy, food and financial systems.
Prior to founding Eagle Cliff, Becca served as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of Energy and as a member of President Obama's transition team focused on the Treasury Department and economic regulatory agencies. She also has experience as an investment analyst at Farallon Capital and as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company.
Becca previously served as a fellow on the Sierra Club Foundation Board of Directors.
Becca earned a bachelor's degree with distinction from Stanford University. She also received an MS in Environment and Resources and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she was an Arjay Miller Scholar.
Sahir serves as Co-chair of Mintz Levin’s Energy Technology Practice. Sa represents emerging growth and established energy technology, information technology and life sciences companies, investors and investment banks in public offerings and private financings, mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic partnerships. In 2013, Sa was listed among the Top 100 Cleantech & Renewables Lawyers by Euromoney’s LMG Cleantech & Renewable Energy. He has worked on a wide variety of capital-raising and related projects, with a focus on equity and debt financings, joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions, with aggregate proceeds of more than $10.6 billion. Sa recently represented Aspen Aerogels in its $82,500,000 Initial Public Offering.
Sa has an M.B.A. in corporate finance and focuses on adding value in complex financing structures and helping younger companies navigate the challenges of the public and private markets. He also has extensive international experience, having represented clients in the United States, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere
Tibor has over 20 years of private equity & venture capital investment and entrepreneurial experience, including the last four years in the clean energy sector. Currently, Tibor heads the Investments Division at the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC). MassCEC invests equity and debt in early-stage and growing clean technology companies, provides incentives for the adoption of renewable energy, and develops programs to prepare workers for the next generation of clean energy jobs. Previously, Tibor worked with FATE Consortium, Babson Capital, Ascent Venture Partners, Lee Capital and Berkshire Partners. Tibor holds an SB in Management Science from MIT, and completed the Masters of Management and Manufacturing (MMM) program at Northwestern University, receiving an MBA from the Kellogg School and an engineering master’s degree from the McCormick School.
Josh Green is the founder and Managing Partner of CCM Energy, a Washington, DC-based investment firm that finances innovative solutions that improve the economic and environmental performance of buildings.
Josh has over 14 years of experience in the energy industry, with an exclusive focus on investment in clean energy since 2003. Prior to launching CCM Energy, he was a co-founder and the CEO of Verdeo Group, a leading clean energy project developer acquired by Sindicatum Sustainable Resources in 2011. Before Verdeo, Josh served as a Vice President at Climate Change Capital, responsible for building and managing a global portfolio of low carbon investments for the firm’s $1 billion carbon fund. Earlier in his career, he was the Chief Operating Officer of the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust, the Vice President, Latin America for Softbank Emerging Markets, and a Consultant to some of the leading utilities in South America with Monitor Group.

In 1997, Scott co-founded Pioneer Consulting, which quickly grew into the leading market research firm covering the optical and broadband communications industry.
