Eaton named James McGill as president of the company's electrical unit for the Americas, reporting to Revathi Advaithi, now the COO of Eaton's electrical group.
H.G. Chissell is now CCO (and co-founder) of GridMarket, a distributed energy project procurement platform that "actualizes projects quickly and cost-effectively through data, site qualifications, and regulatory support." The company claims it is a resource for both utilities and developers. Chissell was previously senior VP of strategic accounts at Viridity Energy.
Robin Shaffer, formerly with energy storage firm Sunverge, has joined GSV Sustainability Partners as VP of business development of the firm focused on providing sustainability solutions, off balance sheet, with the help of private equity.
SPower named David Shipley as CFO and added Ray Henger, formerly CFO at wind developer OwnEnergy, as SVP of structured finance. Shipley joined sPower from Jones Lang LaSalle. SPower is an independent power producer and a portfolio firm of Fir Tree Partners, a fund with $13 billion of capital under management. The IPP owns and operates more than 150 utility and commercial DG systems across the U.S. and the U.K.
Empower Energies added Bill Morrow as VP of business development. Empower finances projects that combine cogen and solar at commercial and industrial sites. Most recently, Morrow served as business development director at Enerparc.
Michael Mendelsohn, previously a senior financial analyst at NREL, is now senior director of project finance and capital markets at the Solar Energy Industries Association. Mendelsohn will lead an "initiative to open direct investment and credit enhancement in solar portfolios from a wide array of potential sources of capital."
Ben Macias is now sales director for the eastern U.S. at NEXTracker. He was previously at SolarBOS, and before that, Shoals. Flextronics just acquired NEXTracker for $330 million.
Warren Hogarth, a VC investor at Sequoia Capital since 2008, is leaving the firm, according to Venture Wire. Hogarth worked with portfolio companies C12 Energy and Sunrun.
Noah Kaye joined Oppenheimer & Co. as senior research analyst in its alternative energy and efficiency practice. Previously, Kaye was with Northland Securities.

Silver Spring Networks, which develops platforms for smart energy networks, appointed Michael Bell as CEO. Scott Lang will move to the role of executive chairman and will continue to serve as chairman of the board. Most recently, Bell held leadership roles in the technology groups dedicated to new devices, mobility and communications at Intel. Previously, Bell led product development at Palm.
Google added Kate Brandt as its sustainability chief. Brandt was the Obama administration's first federal chief sustainability officer. She joined Google in July.
