Energy Jobs: Schneider Electric, Tigo, EnerNOC, SPI, Renovate America, Faraday, and Hawaiian Solar

Executive and boardroom moves in cleantech, utilities, energy and VC.

Annette Clayton has been promoted to CEO and president of Schneider Electric's North American business. She was previously chief supply chain officer at the energy management and automation firm.

Tigo announced that Ronen Benzion joined the solar hardware company as president and COO. Prior to joining Tigo, Benzion served as the president of DCG Systems. In April, SMA, the German solar inverter giant, took a 27 percent stake in Tigo Energy for $20 million, along with a seat on Tigo's board of directors. 

The Hawaii Solar Energy Association (HSEA) asked its members and other companies to provide employment numbers from the period before the cessation of the net energy metering program and today. "In total, companies reported 1,131 employees prior to the October decision versus 692 current employees -- a 39 percent decrease. Additionally, 88 percent of the companies polled reported job losses." HSEA’s Hajime Alabanza writes, “Local companies and advanced technologies that benefit consumers are being unreasonably suppressed, and the only benefactor of this approach is the monopoly utility.”

Enbala Power Networks, a distributed energy resource management firm, named Eric Toler as CFO and executive VP of corporate development. Toler was previously with Global Technology Resources and before that, he served as CFO for T3Media. Jeff St. John reported on Enbala's software platform to control pumps, refrigerators and other devices in ways that can turn them into fast-responding grid assets.

Jim Brennan is now VP of system sales at the Khosla Ventures-owned CIGS thin-film solar company Stion. Previously, he held posts at NRG Energy and Borrego Solar.

Renovate America, a provider of residential property-assessed clean energy financing in the U.S., added John Charles Thomas as VP of market development for Florida. Thomas previously served as senior director of membership and public affairs for the Florida League of Cities. Mike Antheil also joined Renovate America as Florida director of market development. He most recently served as executive director of both the Florida Solar Energy Industries Association and the Florida Alliance for Renewable Energy.  

EnerNOC, a provider of energy intelligence software and demand response products, named William Sorenson as CFO, succeeding the retiring Neil Moses. Sorenson most recently served as CFO of Acquia, a web content management platform.

Electrek reported that Tesla’s VP of regulatory affairs and deputy general counsel, James Chen, is leaving the battery and car maker to join electric-vehicle startup Faraday Future. At Tesla, Chen worked on regulatory issues in states prohibiting car manufacturers from direct sales and dealerships. Electrek reports, "Chen joins several other Tesla executives now leading Faraday Futures, including the company’s top manufacturing leaders: Andrew De Haan, Tesla’s former Director of Global Supplier Industrialization and now Faraday’s plant Director, and Faraday’s Global Vice President of Manufacturing, Dag Reckhorn, who held the Director of Model S Manufacturing position at Tesla from 2009 to 2013."

Anil Vijayendran was promoted to VP of sales and marketing at Hanergy-owned CIGS thin-film maker MiaSolé. Vijayendran has been at MiaSolé since 2007 and has survived three CEOs and an acquisition. Prior to MiaSolé, he was with Novellus Systems.   

SPI Energy, a global provider of PV solutions, added Kevin Qi, formerly with China Merchants Capital, as senior VP of corporate development and capital markets.

Lockheed Martin‘s venture fund hired Christopher Moran, previously a GM at Applied Ventures, as executive director and GM. Lockheed Martin claims to have invested more than $100 million over the last nine years in 22 venture-stage companies.    

Felicity Carus is now a communications specialist at the Climate Policy Initiative.

SunEdison named Philip Gund as CFO, replacing Ilan Daskal, who resigned shortly after taking on the role earlier this year. Gund previously served as CRO for phone-card firm Vivaro.

Carlos Domenech, ex-president of bankrupt renewables developer SunEdison, has joined with Pancho Perez, former COO of SunEdison’s YieldCo misadventures to form renewable developer ieX Renewables, according to SparkSpread. The report also notes, "Paul Gaynor, former head of the North American utility-scale solar and global wind business at SunEdison, has launched a wind- and solar-focused outfit, Longroad Energy Partners, with several former colleagues." 

David Danielson is now Precourt Energy Scholar at Stanford University. Danielson, who recently served as the Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, left his post at the U.S. Department of Energy in April. 

Ygrene Energy Fund, a provider of residential, commercial and multifamily property-assessed clean energy financing, named Peter Orrell as executive VP of business development and products. Orrell is a consumer finance veteran who most recently worked at the American Express Company. Ygrene has more than $785 million in committed capital and has provided more than $437 million in energy efficiency, renewable generation, water conservation and climate resiliency upgrades.
