Workshop Details:

Erich Gunther, Chairman and CTO of Enernex Corporation, an electric power engineering and consulting firm, will lead a two-hour technical tutorial designed to provide a detailed understanding of many of the technological and architectural issues surrounding both the power infrastructure layer and the network communications layer of end-to-end smart grids.

Jim Parks, Program Manager of Energy Efficiency and Customer R&D at SMUD, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, will present a case study of SMUD's efforts to win ARRA funding from the Federal Government and how they have implemented the program thus far.

Lou Fusco, Director of Engineering and Technology at PG&E will present a case study on applications in support of PG&E's smart grid efforsts. Specifically, Mr. Fusco will touch on the Pacific AC Intertie RAS (PACI), a critical infrastructure for stabilizing the Western North American power grid; and Substation Modular Protection and Control (MPAC), yielding improved efficiency, reliability, cost savings, safety and compliance.

Donald Paul, Executive Director of the USC Energy Institute, working in conjunction with LADWP, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, will present a case study of LADWP/USC's innovative, end-to-end smart grid pilot deployment throughout the entire University of Southern California footprint.
