Tesla Motors is going to visit 345 customers to see if their inner hub flange bolts feel OK.
The electric car maker today issued a safety recall on Roadsters produced before April 22, 2009. An owner reported "uncharacteristic handling." It turns out that the flange bolts on a small percentage of cars were improperly torqued during assembly at Lotus, the English car maker that is assembling the cars for Tesla. Lotus is conducting a similar recall on its Elise and Exige vehicles.
No accidents have been reported, and the recall is not related to the battery or electric power train, the company stated. In other words, no Pinto flames.
Tesla will make the house calls to people's homes or offices and not charge anyone for any repairs.
