James Avery, senior VP of power supply at San Diego Gas & Electric, has been named chief development officer at the investor-owned utility. In an interview earlier this year, Avery suggested that if customers were given the right price signals, both solar and EVs can be integrated seamlessly, and it could even benefit the grid.
SolarCity hired J. Radford Small as senior VP of business development and investor relations. Prior to joining SolarCity, Radford was managing director and COO for the clean technology and renewables group at Goldman Sachs, where his team led SolarCity's IPO, multiple capital markets transactions, and a tax equity investment.
Technology services giant DNV GL Group promoted COO Remi Eriksen to group president and CEO, succeeding the retiring Henrik O. Madsen.
PowerCell Sweden named Karin Nilsson as CFO; she joins the fuel-cell firm from vehicle digital market place KVD Kvarndammen, where she served as CFO. PowerCell is a spinout from the Volvo Group aiming to produce environmentally friendly fuel cells and reformers that match existing fuel infrastructures. The firm is owned by Volvo Group Venture Capital, Fouriertransform, Midroc New Technologies and Finindus.
Ingeteam named Teresa Madariaga as company chairwoman. Madariaga, a member of the board of directors since 2014, has worked as an expert actuary in the U.S., U.K., and Spanish markets. Ingeteam designs power and control electronics, generators, and motors, as well as inverters for solar and storage and converters for wind.
Brad Clark has joined Innovari as director of program operations. Clark comes to Innovari after seven years at EnerNOC, where he most recently served as director of field operations. According to the company, Innovari "attacks the electric grid's core problem -- the load duration curve -- unlocking access to affordable capacity that improves system utilization, reliability, and financial performance."
Cambrian Innovation, a wastewater treatment product provider, named Anu Shah as its VP of engineering. Previously, Shah was principal division manager for wastewater engineering projects at Summit Engineering.
Mosaic, a residential solar financing platform, announced that Robert Kelly, former SolarCity CFO, is joining the privately held firm as a member of the company's board of directors. Prior to SolarCity, Kelly was CFO of Calera, a startup seeking to convert waste CO2 into useful materials. Mosaic also announced that Olaf Janke is joining the company as CFO. Previously, Janke was CFO at Aequitas Capital Management.
Richard Stuebi, formerly managing director of Early Stage Partners, is joining National Grid as VP of U.S. strategy and group technology. Stuebi writes, "With a market capitalization of about $50 billion and annual revenues of over $20 billion, National Grid is one of the world’s largest electric and gas utilities. Based in the United Kingdom, National Grid operates the high-voltage power transmission system and the natural gas transportation pipeline network in England and Wales. In the U.S., National Grid delivers electricity and natural gas in the Northeast, with a service territory covering much of the area between Boston, Brooklyn and Buffalo." He adds, "I will be investigating and pursuing a wide range of interesting opportunities -- such as 'big data,' advanced grid concepts, on-site power generation and energy storage, in addition to conventional growth avenues."
